The True Montana Get Away!

The Very Essence of Vacation

Fly fishing at Montana River Lodge is truly exceptional. The trout average between 15 and 20 inches and can exceed 25 inches. Dry fly and dry/dropper nymphs are the most productive methods on a wide variety of hatches from early spring to late fall. One avid fly fishing addict from Missoula prefers our specific location for the winter months. That's saying a lot with all the choices in the Missoula area. From our lodge, there are ample areas for wade fishing or drift fishing in boats, rafts, and personal pontoon crafts.

Many fly fishing lodges, outfitters, and local residents simultaneously and continuously use the same river portions over and over creating crowded conditions and pounded selective trout. Conversely, one factor that results in the exceptionally good fly fishing at Montana River Lodge is that we have extremely low fishing pressure. This is due to the fact that this portion of the Clark Fork River is fairly difficult to access except through our lodge property. There is no boat access below the class 3+ white water which ends several miles upstream from us. In the past thirty years we have seen only two fly fishermen hike in to our location because it is surrounded by hundreds of acres of state forest which is gated year around.

The resulting low pressure has led to the kind of fly fishing experience so many of us envision when we think of Montana. A pristine and uncrowded river with large trout, that haven't been flogged to the point of taking only the most precisely selected fly and a perfect presentation, is waiting for all levels of fly fishermen. Of all the Montana cabins for rent, this is truly the ideal destination for a dream fishing vacation. At Montana River Lodge we continue to enjoy the amenities of exceptional fly fishing in the mecca that is Montana, and invite you to experience our fly fishing Heaven!
